Gangs in western Sweden are recruiting increasingly young people to sell drugs. As part of efforts to combat this, Hisings police have started making home visits to those who use narcotics, according to Expressen.
The local police area commander Daniel Norlander explains that the sale of illegal substances is the most important source of income for criminal networks. Police have therefore now turned directly to consumers.
– We want them to understand what their money goes towards, and we also offer help for anyone who wants to stop, he says.
Those who open the door for police do not appear to be angry. Instead, the meetings are dominated by other emotions.
– It is more about guilt and shame than anger. The conversations have become personal and made many people think. A good number of those we meet have families and children themselves, says Norlander.
In addition to investigating crime, police want to use the visits to point out what help is available for those struggling with addiction.
