Officers responded after receiving, shortly after 14:00 hours (local time), a report of a "suspected deadly act of violence in progress" at the school, according to police spokesman Pelle Vamstad as cited in the newspaper. Local authorities clarified that the suspect entered the premises with the sword and wounded "several people".
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson lamented on social media the "serious incident" that occurred in Fagersta and acknowledged that the motivation behind the attack remains unknown. "We still do not know what lies behind the act, but we know that the police are working with great intensity. Our thoughts are with all those affected", wrote Kristersson, who called on the population to "allow the Police and emergency services to work without interference".
