In January 2026, a homemade bomb was discovered beneath a shelter near Rättvik Church. The bomb was wrapped in gift paper and marked with the name of an employee at the upper secondary school where the 18-year-old studied. The discovery was made after school staff observed the 18-year-old near the employee's car and followed him.
In a subsequent search of the 18-year-old's home, weapons and weapon parts he had manufactured using a 3D printer were found.
The district court convicted him of attempted murder, attempted gross endangerment, serious violation of regulations on flammable and explosive materials, and serious weapons offences. The appeal court agrees with this assessment in the key respects.
However, the appeal court makes a clarification concerning the placement of the bomb at the shelter near the church. The court finds that it has not been established that the 18-year-old had any purpose other than to hide the bomb at that time – and that intent to injure, kill, or destroy property has not been proven. He is therefore not convicted of attempted murder or attempted gross endangerment connected to that particular incident. However, the conviction for serious violation of regulations on flammable and explosive materials for handling at the shelter stands, in accordance with the district court's ruling.
The sentence of 13 years is upheld. One of the judge panellists in the case, Anna-Karin Larsson, comments on the outcome: "This concerns very serious crimes. The decisive action of the school staff has likely been crucial in ensuring that the bomb was found and neutralised so quickly."
