Municipality clears polling stations – prosecutors continue investigation

Borlänge municipality's election office has found no evidence that systematic election fraud took place in the municipality's polling stations, according to Dagens Nyheter. This emerges from an internal review in which incident and daily reports were examined and conversations held with vote receivers and election observers.

"We cannot see that there is any incident that stands out in such a way that it can be classified as serious enough to have affected the election," says Fredrik Holm, deputy municipal director in Borlänge.

The municipality will not proceed with any of the reviewed incidents.

"For us, the election is over," says Holm, but adds that the municipality remains prepared to cooperate with other authorities if requested.

Despite the municipality's conclusion, a police preliminary investigation into suspected election fraud in Borlänge is ongoing. Prosecutors Oskar Edvardsson and Johan Lindmark at the National Anti-Corruption Unit have been leading the investigation for a couple of weeks.

"The preliminary investigation is still ongoing," says prosecutor Johan Lindmark.

The investigation is linked to Left Party politician Mohamed Abdukardir Ali's personal election campaign in Borlänge. Abdukardir Ali stood in ninth position on the party's list but secured a seat in parliament through personal votes.

Holm emphasises that the municipality's review only concerns vote reception within the polling stations and not possible events outside these.

"We have not looked at society at large," he says.
