A woman was killed in the middle of the day outside a supermarket at Bellvuegården in Malmö after a man attacked her with a knife. According to Aftonbladet, the perpetrator allegedly appeared from behind and inflicted multiple stab wounds on the victim. The incident is said to have been captured on surveillance camera.
Police have now confirmed that the two were known to each other.
– From our assessment, you can see that there is a connection between those involved. I cannot go into more detail about what this concerns. This did not happen at random, says Erik Åberg, local police chief in Hyllie in Malmö.
The woman is reported to have worked in a shop nearby and was on her way to open it when she was attacked, according to police.
Several members of the public intervened against the perpetrator and carried out what is called a citizens' arrest while waiting for police to arrive. The suspect is a man in his 50s who was arrested at the scene.
Police technical investigation is ongoing and a number of interviews have already been conducted.
– We are analysing the technical investigation and examining the course of events. A number of interviews have been conducted and there are further people to be questioned, says Åberg.
The incident has created a sense of unease in the area, something police say they are aware of.
– We will have several police resources for reassurance work, says Åberg.
