Prosecutor: motive unclear after fatal shooting in Älvsjö

A 25-year-old woman died on Saturday as a result of injuries sustained when she was shot at a sports facility in Älvsjö in south Stockholm on Friday evening, Svenska Dagbladet reports. At the time of the shooting, both an indoor hockey match and a football match were taking place nearby, with many people present.

Two men in their late teens were arrested at around 04.30 on Saturday morning in Flemingsberg, south of Stockholm. They are detained on suspicion of jointly carrying out the murder. Both deny the charges.

– They are not from Stockholm. As far as we can see so far, they do not appear to know the injured party, prosecutor Tigerstrand tells TT.

The motive is still unknown. Tigerstrand states that the investigation is at an early stage.

– The short answer is that we don't know what the motive is, but we have some leads that we are looking into. We have not come far enough in the investigation to have established any motive, he says.

The prosecutor states that it is not known that there was any threat picture against the woman.

– My impression so far is that she is a completely ordinary woman, says Tigerstrand.

Lee Orberson, district director in Hägersten-Älvsjö, stated on Saturday that the deceased was employed in the municipality's youth activities.

No other persons have been arrested, but the prosecutor does not rule out that more may be involved in the crime.

– We are investigating whether there could be more people involved. Often when it is similar incidents, we have found that there are more people involved than the one who carried out the crime, says Tigerstrand.

A decision on remanding the suspects in custody must be made by Tuesday at 12 o'clock.
