Lorry driver convicted following hit-and-run in Östersund

A man in his 40s has been convicted by the district court in Östersund of deliberately driving into an A-tractor and subsequently leaving the accident scene without stopping, according to SVT Nyheter. The sentence is a suspended sentence and day fines of 6,400 kronor.

The accident occurred in September last year outside Ica Maxi in Östersund. The A-tractor driver stated during proceedings that he was struck from behind by a lorry on two occasions. The speed was low but the damage amounted to thousands of kronor. The driver perceived the incident as intentional, not as an accident.

The lorry driver denied the allegations. However, the district court found the A-tractor driver's testimony credible and considered it, together with other evidence, to have established that the lorry driver was guilty of leaving the accident scene.

In addition to the suspended sentence and day fines, the man, who is not resident in the county, must pay 1,000 kronor to the crime victim fund.
