Man climbed through window – charged with rape of disabled woman in Trollhättan
A 25-year-old man has been charged with rape against a wheelchair-using woman at a residential facility in Trollhättan, reports Expressen. The man is alleged to have climbed through the window of the woman's flat in June with beer that is said to have been delivered there.
According to the police investigation, the complainant suffers from severe disabilities, uses a wheelchair and speaks only in very short sentences. A staff member at the facility entered the flat and confronted the man, who then left the scene.
Later that day, the woman broke down in tears, which aroused staff suspicions that an assault had taken place. In a police interview, the woman stated that they had had intercourse, that she did not want to, and that she was sad.
In her phone, police found messages between her and the suspected man, in which the man had made sexual advances that the woman rejected. The man was arrested less than a week after the incident.
He has consistently denied that any intercourse took place. His defence counsel Göran Starkebo told Expressen:
– He did not do what the prosecutor alleges. What can be established is that he brought some cans of beer with him. He brought those with him, urged to do so by the complainant.
Starkebo also points out that there is no technical evidence linking the man to the crime.
The man is an Afghan citizen and received a permanent residence permit in January 2024 under the so-called Gymnasium Act. He does not have protected status and has no family in Sweden. The Migration Board states that there are no obstacles to enforcing a potential deportation.
The prosecutor is seeking lifelong deportation upon conviction.
– He is aware that the prosecutor is seeking deportation upon conviction. But we are far from that, says defence counsel Starkebo.
