During the night of Sunday, a man was found lifeless outside a motel in Rosersberg, Sigtuna municipality. Police received the emergency call at around 01:00 and called an ambulance to the scene. Despite efforts, the man's life could not be saved.
The injuries on the deceased led police to suspect a crime. A man was subsequently arrested in the vicinity. On Wednesday, the prosecutor decided to remand him in custody on probable cause for murder.
Both the victim and the suspected man are middle-aged and are Latvian citizens. They had a previous relationship and were in Sweden for work.
The remanded man denies the charges and claims he acted in self-defence.
The Prosecutor's Authority states that the investigation is still in an early stage and that extensive preliminary investigation work remains. The final day for prosecution or a request for extended prosecution time is 12 August.
