A man in his 30s was found dead in central Kiruna on Friday evening, reports svt.se. Police were called to the scene at around 20:30 after two men of the same age became involved in a fight.
Another man was injured in the incident and was taken to hospital by ambulance. According to police, his injuries are not life-threatening. During the night into Saturday, he was detained on suspicion of murder.
"These individuals knew each other from before and became involved in a fight," says RLC officer Elin Andersson.
The suspect was still at the scene when the first patrol arrived, according to Johan Marklund at the police. Relatives of the deceased have been notified of the death.
The suspected crime scene was cordoned off for technical examination. Police assess the incident as isolated and not linked to any broader context.
"This occurred outdoors in full view, so there are witnesses who have seen parts of what happened. I cannot say exactly what they have said, but it is good for the investigation," says Andersson.
On Saturday morning, Andersson announced that they hope to question the detained man as soon as possible.
