Two remanded following serious violent crime in Umeå – victim admitted to hospital

According to svt.se, police in Umeå are investigating a serious crime against a man in the residential area of Haga – the offences are classified as aggravated assault and abduction. A man and a woman were remanded in custody over the weekend.

– It is a serious incident that has occurred, says district prosecutor Anders Norberg, who is leading the preliminary investigation.

The crimes are alleged to have been committed indoors in a property in Haga during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday. On Wednesday, a man was arrested, suspected of aggravated assault, abduction and theft. The following day, a woman was arrested, suspected of complicity in aggravated assault.

Over the weekend, both were remanded – the man for abduction and aggravated assault, the woman for complicity in the same crime.

Norberg does not wish to detail what the victim was subjected to, but states that the manner in which the violence was carried out justifies the serious criminal classification.

– There is an acquaintance between these individuals. Why it happened as it did will be shown by the continued investigation, says Norberg.

Police were very cautious with information about the incident on Friday.

– There were no life-threatening injuries, says Norberg.

The lawyer Oskar Söderberg, who represents the suspected man, states that his client denies the allegations.

– He denies responsibility for the crime. His stance otherwise and what has happened I cannot comment on, says Söderberg.

The lawyer Robert Svedjetorp, who represents the suspected woman, has not provided any comments. The victim's legal representative could not be reached.
