On Tuesday evening, Swedish police shot a man in front of the Royal Palace in Sweden. This emerged from a press release from the police, to which B.T. refers.

The man is described as aggressive and armed. After being shot by police, he was taken to hospital, where his condition is described as serious, but not life-threatening.

The police press spokesperson, Susanna Rinaldo, told the Swedish news agency TT that the man was in possession of a knife. She added that no members of the Swedish royal family were in the palace during the incident.

According to the Swedish media outlet SVT, the man was reportedly shot in the leg, but this has not yet been officially confirmed by police.

The incident occurred shortly after 18:30. The police operation was still ongoing at the scene afterwards. A witness told SVT that they were in the area when they suddenly saw numerous blue flashing lights as well as ambulances and police cars.

What the man was precisely doing, and whether there was a motive behind the incident, remains unclear. Police stated that there is no danger to the public.
