Suspected cyberattack on Stockholm City Library – PIN codes reset
Stockholm City Library may have suffered a data breach following a massive number of e-book loans. All borrowers' PIN codes have been reset.
Data breach suspected after mass e-book loans in Stockholm
Stockholm City Library may have been subjected to a cyberattack, reports Svenska Dagbladet with reference to Aftonbladet. The incident was discovered during the week when the library's e-book provider noticed that an extremely large number of e-book loans had been conducted in a short period of time.
The loans are said to have been carried out using library card numbers and associated PIN codes. It has not yet been established how library users have been affected or what personal information may have been disclosed, the library writes on its website.
Under the collective name Stockholm City Library there are some forty libraries in the capital. The suspected data breach is said to affect several libraries throughout Sweden.
PIN codes reset – login access blocked
As an immediate security measure, all borrowers' PIN codes have been reset. It is currently not possible to log in to "my pages". The incident is being investigated while measures are being implemented.
The library has not yet disclosed how many borrowers are affected or how the breach may have occurred technically.
