Person detained in absentia on suspicion of murder in Kalmar county

Police are investigating a suspected murder after a person was found dead in Kalmar county earlier this summer, according to oskarshamns-nytt.se.

According to police press spokesperson Thomas Johansson, the crime is believed to have been committed sometime between 7 July and 7 August. On Thursday, the prosecutor requested a person be detained in absentia, suspected of murder and breach of the peace of the grave.

The suspected person is subject to a search warrant and is being actively sought by police.

The investigation is shrouded in unusually extensive secrecy. Johansson told Aftonbladet that the level of confidentiality is rare in such a case, but that there are good reasons for it. Police have declined to provide further information about the discovery of the body, the suspect, or the circumstances surrounding the suspected crime.

The suspect's defence counsel Josefine Dahlén is also unable to comment on the investigation – she has been placed under a disclosure prohibition.
