On Tuesday evening, police fired shots at a man in a residential area in Svalöv. The incident occurred after the man threatened several people with a sharp object.
The patrol responded to the situation with firearms and the man was hit in the lower body. He was taken to hospital by ambulance and his condition is not assessed as critical.
The arrested man is around 35 years old. According to reports, he also directed the sharp object towards the police officers at the scene. The exact type of weapon involved is unclear – reports vary between knife, meat cleaver and axe, according to police spokesperson Leif Fransson.
The man is now held on suspicion of aggravated assault against a public official. Additionally, an automatic investigation is being initiated to evaluate whether the police's use of firearms was proportionate.
