A member of parliament with several prominent party positions is under investigation for a child sexual abuse material offence. Questioning has been conducted but suspicions remain.
Parliamentary politician questioned over child sexual abuse material offence
A member of parliament with several prominent positions within his party is under investigation for a child sexual abuse material offence, reports Göteborgs-Posten citing information from SVT.
– Questioning has been conducted, after which the person was released. But the suspicions remain, says prosecutor Lena Körner at the Special Prosecution Chamber to the channel.
The police's department for special investigations brought in the suspected politician for questioning. Several electronic devices are said to have been seized and are now expected to be analysed, according to SVT.
Körner confirms that certain cases are handled by the Special Prosecution Chamber, to which investigations into, among others, members of parliament, police officers, judges and prosecutors are assigned.
– Certain cases are handled by us because the suspected individuals belong to different categories, but I do not wish to go into further detail at this time, says Körner.
The criminal suspicions are reported to have reached Swedish police via the American organisation NCMEC, which annually sends tips to Sweden regarding suspected child sexual abuse material offences. The investigation concerns "child sexual abuse material offence at an unknown location in Sweden" and was registered in mid-April. SVT reports that it has sought the member of parliament for comment.
