One of five men convicted of extensive narcotics offences in Malmö is now receiving a lighter sentence. The Court of Appeal for Blekinge and Skåne has reduced the penalty from seven to six years' imprisonment, reports Aftonbladet.

The reason for the sentence reduction is that the man has contributed information which investigators assessed as valuable in clarifying the crime.

The case concerns a major narcotics seizure in Malmö in May of last year. Police found approximately 200 kilos of cocaine in a flat in the city. The drugs had been brought into Sweden via Helsingborg port, where a lorry driver collected a banana container that contained at least 1,200 kilos of the illegal substance.

All five men were convicted in district court in April this year. Several of them appealed the verdict. For two of the men, the sentence of eight years' imprisonment for particularly serious narcotics offences stands, with lifetime expulsion as an addition.
