An 18-year-old man resident in Västerbotten has been charged with offences connected to the internationally notorious network 764. According to the prosecution, the young man is believed to have held a position among those leading the group.

– The scale here in Sweden exceeds what the public has so far understood, comments prosecutor Jenny Östling in Svenska Dagbladet.

The 764 network has become known worldwide for distributing material containing extremely violent content and for influencing primarily young people to commit serious acts. In the investigation material is an incident where a boy, then 15 years old, during a video call urged a girl to continue harming herself whilst blood ran down her arm.

The now-charged 18-year-old is thus described as having belonged to the network's top tier. The case highlights the question of how widespread 764's presence actually is in Sweden and how many young people may have been drawn in.

The trial is currently ongoing.
