Young people injured in boat crash in Hunnebostrand – investigation into serious maritime drink-driving
Several young people were injured when a motorboat crashed into rocks in Sotenäs municipality overnight. One individual was transported by helicopter to hospital. Police are now investigating maritime drink-driving and serious traffic offences.

During the night into Sunday, an open motorboat crashed directly into a rocky outcrop at Hunnebostrand in Sotenäs municipality. A number of young people were on board the vessel and were all thrown out of the craft upon impact.
The emergency call reached the rescue centre shortly after half past midnight. Rescue teams from several units were deployed at the scene.
– The operation was extensive and required considerable resources. We assisted the emergency services at the scene of the accident, explained Mats Gränsmark, who had command responsibility at the rescue service, in an interview with Expressen.
A total of six people were taken to hospital. One of them was transported by ambulance helicopter whilst the other five travelled by ordinary ambulance. The condition of one of those affected is described as serious.
According to the police duty officer Otto Eriksson, who spoke to Göteborgs-Posten, the boat was between five and six metres long and appeared to have been travelling at high speed before it struck the rocks. The passengers were thrown up against the stones and sustained various injuries.
Following the incident, police have initiated a legal investigation into serious maritime drink-driving and serious negligence in traffic. One person is currently under suspicion for these offences.
