A 41-year-old Croatian citizen who died on Saturday during a police operation in a residential house near Uršne Selo in Lower Carniola was previously the subject of a search operation in Croatia as well. There, he was linked to a shooting on Thursday in the Valdebeka area near Pula.
In that incident, he allegedly injured a 60-year-old man with a firearm, who is being treated in a Pula hospital. Istrian police designated the suspect as a dangerous person who they believed was armed. Residents were advised to avoid him and to immediately report any information about his whereabouts to the authorities.
On Friday evening, the same man allegedly robbed a petrol station in the Črnomelj area in Slovenia whilst armed. After the incident, he fled the scene in a vehicle. Slovenian police searched for him for more than 24 hours until they located him on Saturday afternoon in a building in Uršne Selo.
During an operation by a special police unit, an exchange of gunfire occurred, after which the suspect died. Novo Mesto police confirmed that this was the same person sought by Croatian authorities. The detailed circumstances of his death are still being investigated.
Investigation proceedings relating to both cases, in both Slovenia and Croatia, are ongoing.
