Stanko Vidovič, head of the Criminal Police Sector of the Maribor Police Administration, stepped before cameras and presented the investigation's findings to the public. He confirmed that one of those involved in the incident shot the 42-year-old, who suffered light bodily injuries in the process.
Sole suspect: 29-year-old on the run
Numerous police patrols and units were dispatched to the scene of the incident and immediately began intensive measures to locate the persons involved. Police officers and criminal investigators examined the crime scene and secured items important for the further criminal proceedings.
The criminal investigation is ongoing. Police are investigating the incident on suspicion of committing criminal offences of light bodily injury and creating general danger. Vidovič confirmed to journalists that at this stage of the investigation one person is suspected. When asked whether the sought 29-year-old is the primary suspect, he replied tersely: "The sole suspect."
According to findings to date, the sought 29-year-old was not injured in the incident.
One person temporarily detained, then released
Police identified several persons involved in the events in the days following the incident. One of them was temporarily deprived of liberty yesterday on suspicion of involvement in the incident. Vidovič explained that this suspicion was not confirmed in further proceedings.
Police stated that some persons involved in the events had been dealt with in the past for criminal offences. Details on this were not disclosed.
Investigation expands to other areas
Criminal investigators are also checking a wider area and determining whether any events occurred at other locations prior to the incident itself. Vidovič acknowledged that the question of how the motor vehicle connected to the event came to be on Leon Štuklja Square in the first place remains under investigation.
