Suspect in Bela krajina petrol station robbery dies during police operation, pursued by Croatian police
After more than 24 hours on the run, a Croatian citizen suspected of robbing a petrol station near Črnomlja died on Saturday afternoon during a police operation in Uršne sela. The same man was also being sought by Croatian police on suspicion of shooting a 60-year-old near Pula.

On Saturday afternoon, a man died in the settlement of Uršne sela in Bela krajina during an operation by a special police unit. Slovenian police had been searching for him for the previous day and a half in connection with a petrol station robbery. The deceased was a 41-year-old Croatian citizen who was also being sought across the border for violent offences.
The Novo Mesto Police Administration announced that following an extensive operation, police officers discovered where the suspect was hiding. When they surrounded him in a building in Uršne sela, the man barricaded himself in. During the special unit's operation, gunfire erupted, after which the suspect succumbed to his injuries.
On the Croatian side, the same man, Srđan Aleksić, born in 1985, was being sought in connection with an incident on 9 July in the Valdebeka area near Pula. He allegedly shot a 60-year-old man with a firearm, who remained hospitalised in Pula due to his injuries.
Croatian law enforcement authorities designated Aleksić as a dangerous person suspected of being armed. Residents were advised not to approach him, but to immediately report any information about his whereabouts to police.
The investigation into circumstances in Slovenia and Croatia continues.
