Driver and passenger fled after collision with seriously injured cyclist

As delo.si reports, on 30 September, police officers dealt with a traffic accident in the area of Breg near Mežica in which a 73-year-old cyclist was extremely seriously injured. The driver of a private vehicle hit him and then, together with his passenger, left the scene of the accident on foot without providing any assistance to the injured person.

The Celje Police Directorate announced today that both – the driver and passenger – have been identified.

"We will today bring the driver of the private vehicle before the investigating judge with a criminal charge due to suspicion of committing criminal offences of unauthorised use of a motor vehicle under Article 210 of the Criminal Code, reckless driving in road traffic under Article 324 of the Criminal Code and the criminal offence of leaving an injured person in a traffic accident without assistance under Article 328 of the Criminal Code," the Celje Police Directorate stated.

For the aforementioned criminal offences, sentences of up to 13 years imprisonment are prescribed.
