Bratislava: explosion and fire near airport, police investigate suspicion of endangerment
During the night from Friday to Saturday, a powerful explosion shook the area around Bratislava airport in the Ivanska Cela region, close to a residential complex. Eyewitnesses at the scene reported a loud blast and pressure wave, which one of the viewers of Markíza station also captured in a recording. After the explosion, a fierce fire broke out.
According to Parameter, the flames may have been caused by explosions of propane-butane gas cylinders. Authorities reported no injuries, and firefighters succeeded in completely extinguishing the fire before 2 a.m., thereby preventing further damage.
Lukáš Pecek, spokesman for the Bratislava regional police headquarters, told the TASR news agency that the report came shortly after midnight. As he stated, "a criminal proceeding has been initiated in the case for suspicion of endangerment. Investigators from the District Police Headquarters Bratislava II continue to intensively investigate the circumstances of the case".
