Proceedings continued at the Specialised Criminal Court in Pezinok in one of the most notorious murders of recent years. The witness was a man who once worked in the secret service – Peter Tóth. He was to answer questions concerning the death of reporter Ján Kuciak and his partner.
According to a report from Denník N, Tóth had previously cooperated with Marián Kočner, who faces charges for ordering the murder. Their joint venture was the "Na pranieri" project. Its aim was to monitor certain media outlets and individuals within them. The murdered journalist was among those being monitored.
Investigators believe that data gathered during this surveillance helped in preparing the attack. Kuciak and his partner were shot dead in their home in Veľká Mača in early 2018.
The judges on that day focused on inconsistencies between various statements given by this witness. The defence counsel for the main accused had the most questions. Before the proceedings, he announced that the questioning should be shorter than in the case of another key witness, which the court dealt with over the previous two days.
The criminal proceedings in the double murder case ranks among Slovakia's most closely followed court cases.
