Twenty-year-old man attacks paramedic during transfer to ambulance

A violent incident occurred in Košice at the Furča residential estate in front of the East polyclinic. A young man, who was being transported on a wheelchair to a rescue vehicle, turned against a paramedic.

According to Korzár SME, the twenty-year-old perpetrator was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the attack. He punched the rapid medical response worker twice in the face. He then stood up, grabbed an advertising stand and aimed it at the medical staff member.

The paramedic sustained a neck spine strain and abrasion on his left cheek. According to a medical assessment, he should recover from these injuries within seven days.

Jana Illésová, spokesperson for the Košice regional police, told the media that officers documented the entire incident and accused the man of the criminal offence of dangerous threatening.

Because the paramedic belongs to protected professionals and the act occurred during his service, if found guilty, he faces a sentence of between six months and three years' imprisonment.

In addition, police are investigating a suspected theft.
