Fraudulent investment offers impersonate state institutions
Fraudulent campaigns have appeared on social networks and web portals, presenting themselves as official activities of two key Slovak government offices. The perpetrators are primarily interested in persuading users about exceptional opportunities to grow their savings. The ministry itself reported on the entire matter and distanced itself from these activities. Details were published by the portal trend.sk.
Criminals present themselves in a way that makes it appear their offer has been approved by the state. In reality, it is a fraud in which the good name of the finance ministry and the National Bank of Slovakia are being exploited. Neither of these institutions offers the public any special investment products.
The office issued a warning in which it recommends citizens to be cautious of such temptations. People should not share such content, but rather report it to the administrators of the relevant page. At the same time, requests for personal information, access codes or data relating to payment instruments should be rejected. Likewise, it is not recommended to open links from unknown sources or to download software whose origin has not been verified. Promises of guaranteed high returns are among the classic lures used by fraudsters.
This method is among the widespread tactics of internet fraudsters who hide behind trustworthy organisations in order to extort money or sensitive information from victims.
