Public Prosecutor Maroš Žilinka has confirmed that the criminal proceedings preceding the murder of a teacher in Gelnice involved serious irregularities. The police nevertheless maintain the correctness of their conclusions.

Public Prosecutor Maroš Žilinka confirmed on Tuesday that an inspection carried out by the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Slovak Republic had revealed serious shortcomings in the criminal proceedings which preceded the tragedy in Gelnice. In the case investigating the death of teacher Zuzana V., there were serious violations of legal regulations.
"The Public Prosecutor's Office of the Slovak Republic established serious violations of law in the criminal case which preceded the tragedy of the murder of a teacher in Gelnice," Žilinka stated in a statement.
Nevertheless, the police maintain that their inspection found no irregularities. The Police Force on Tuesday published a statement in which it defends the procedure of its officers.
"The Police Force of the SR maintains the conclusions of the inspection it conducted in connection with the murder of a teacher in Gelnice," stated a police spokesperson.
The incident occurred on 20 June in Gelnice, where Zuzana V. died following an attack by her husband. The case sparked public discussion about the procedure of authorities engaged in criminal proceedings.
