The General Prosecutor's Office has overturned the verdict of the Košice regional prosecutor, which had dropped criminal proceedings against a 15-year-old pupil on charges of aiding and abetting suicide.

The Košice regional prosecutor's office concluded its investigation into a 15-year-old pupil from a primary school in Parchovany in January, after police had charged her with aiding and abetting suicide. However, the General Prosecutor's Office of Slovakia overturned this verdict last week, according to the Korzár portal.
The tragedy occurred in November 2023, when a 15-year-old pupil named Roman jumped from the school roof in the same village. He died in hospital that day from his injuries.
After more than six months of investigation, his classmate Sofia was charged. According to the original charge, she had allegedly verbally encouraged the boy to jump. The charge of aiding and abetting suicide was later reclassified as a misdemeanour.
The regional prosecutor eventually concluded that the girl's conduct did not meet the elements of a criminal offence and dropped the criminal proceedings.
However, this decision is no longer valid. The General Prosecutor's Office overturned the verdict last week. Details about the reasons are not yet known.
The case thus returns to the stage where the prosecutor's office must reassess whether the facts constitute a criminal offence. The father of the deceased boy had filed a complaint, but did not live to see its outcome.
The District Police Headquarters in Trebišov had charged the 15-year-old pupil in June 2024. The investigation lasted several months.
