Luxury lifestyle on social media concealed fraudulent investment schemes
Law enforcement from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, in cooperation with Europol, detained eleven individuals at the beginning of this month. Among them is Tomáš Štetiar, a young man who had built an image on the internet of a successful businessman living a luxurious lifestyle.
According to Denník N, investigators charged those detained with operating several fraudulent investment projects. Specifically, these were platforms named Crypto Cartel, Seif Finance, Seif Group and Seif DAO. Štetiar publicly presented himself as the head of an investment community and director of a financial company.
On his accounts he posted images of branded accessories – from watches to handbags from renowned fashion houses. There were also photographs from exotic resorts, luxury cars and property in Dubai. At the same time, he rented a corporate flat in the Persian Gulf, handled his tax obligations in South American Paraguay and offered his services to clients from his home country.
Security forces revealed on Tuesday that the number of defrauded investors exceeds one thousand. More precisely, there are 1,125 victims, with the total damage exceeding 8.4 million euros. The case continues to be handled by the competent criminal investigation authorities.
