Mother of school attacker in custody, threatened headteacher with death
Slovak police have detained the mother of a thirteen-year-old boy who killed two people at a primary school in northern Slovakia this week, according to ceskenoviny.cz. The thirty-year-old woman threatened the school's headteacher with death shortly after the tragedy and is now in custody.
Daniela Kocková, spokeswoman for Žilina police, said the woman has been charged with the offence of violence against a group of people and the offence of rioting. She refused to provide further details.
Magazine Plus 7 Dní reports that the woman had previously been prosecuted for drug-related criminal activity as a user of narcotics. According to the same publication, the boy's father had also had problems with the law, having been released approximately a year ago from prison, where he was imprisoned for property-related and drug-related criminal activity. Given the problematic background of the parents, the boy was placed in the care of his grandparents.
The attack took place on Tuesday. It resulted in the death of one of the teachers and the attacker's fellow pupil. Police detained the boy and, according to media reports, he was placed in a psychiatric ward. Due to his young age, he is not criminally responsible.
