Pezinok court: 19 years for murder of children in Bratislava's Ružinov

The Specialised Criminal Court (ŠTS) in Pezinok sentenced Ivana F. on Tuesday to 19 years of imprisonment for the particularly serious crime of premeditated murder, according to startitup.sk. She will serve her sentence in a facility with the highest level of security.

The case is linked to a fire in a flat in Bratislava's Ružinov from August last year. Rescuers treated two adults at the scene, but were unable to help two children. Police restricted Ivana F.'s personal liberty at the scene. According to the indictment, she was to have killed her own children first and then set the flat alight.

The court acquitted Ivana F. of the criminal act of general endangerment, as it concluded it could not be proven that she had committed it. The verdict is not yet final.

In addition to the deprivation of liberty, the court imposed compulsory psychiatric treatment on the accused in ambulatory form and a confiscation sentence – a hair dryer. The Specialised Criminal Court awarded compensation to the injured husband Michal Fuzák in the amount of more than 2,000 euros. With regard to the remainder of his claim, as well as the claims of the injured insurance company and the Fire and Rescue Corps, the court referred the parties to civil proceedings.
