Man from Trebišov stabbed lawyer with screwdriver in the head, court kept him in custody

Trebišov man stabbed lawyer with screwdriver, remains behind bars
Radoslav P. (50) from Trebišov attacked lawyer Zuzana in March in one of the local retail chains and stabbed her several times with a screwdriver in the head and neck area. The woman ended up in Trebišov hospital; after treatment she was released for home and outpatient care. As Korzár reports, the attacker had previously lost a court case in which the injured party was represented by the opposing side.
From the scene of the crime, Radoslav P. attempted to flee, but random witnesses prevented his escape and called the police, who arrived almost immediately. The screwdriver was recovered and became key evidence in the case.
"The suspect was detained at the scene and subsequently escorted to the police station," said regional police spokeswoman Lenka Ivanová on the day of the incident.
Due to the severity of the offence, the case was taken over by an investigator from the Criminal Police Department of the Regional Police Headquarters of the Police Force in Košice. Radoslav P. was charged with two criminal offences — the particularly serious crime of attempted murder and the offence of disturbance of the peace.
Košice City Court placed him in custody. Last week he returned to court with a request for release — the judge rejected it despite the presented promise, guarantee and proposal for supervision.
Since the injured party is a protected person under the law, the offender faces, according to the stricter paragraph, a custodial sentence of 20 to 25 years, or possibly life imprisonment.
