The east Slovak capital experienced a hectic afternoon yesterday. A man found a dangerous object in a small forest near the Košice Dargovských hrdinov residential area and subsequently brought it to his flat. Regional police informed the public via social media.
In order to protect the health and safety of citizens, authorities proceeded to evacuate the buildings at risk. Fire service evacuation vehicles transported people to safety. Affected residents had to temporarily leave their homes.
"We have secured the entire area. Our bomb-disposal specialist is currently working at the scene to determine the nature of the find," police stated. They added that no one else has handled the discovered object.
The emergency services are asking people to follow their instructions and not cross the cordoned-off area. They also thanked local residents for their patience and cooperation during the operation.
A bomb-disposal expert will assess what type of ammunition it is and determine the next steps for its disposal or removal.
