A prosecutor is expected to present an indictment today against parliament's deputy speaker Tibor Gašpar, oligarch Norbert Bödör and other defendants in the corruption case known as Očistec.

On Monday 8 June, the Očistec case is finally expected to be heard at the Specialised Criminal Court in Banská Bystrica. A prosecutor is expected to present an indictment against several individuals including current parliament deputy speaker Tibor Gašpar and businessman Norbert Bödör, who is close to the Smer party.
The presentation of the indictment was scheduled for earlier, but the hearing was postponed. The first attempt to present it was thwarted by lawyer Marek Para, who at that time declared that the defendants would defend themselves honestly.
Due to changes to criminal codes pushed through by the governing coalition, some of the accused may be in a more favourable position. Some charges have been statute-barred and for those where the statute of limitations has not expired, there is a possibility of avoiding conviction with a suspended sentence in the event of a guilty plea.
The case concerns suspicions of corruption and abuse of authority by a public official in the police service. Among the accused, besides Gašpar and Bödör, are other nominees of the Smer party who held positions in the police.
