Security forces stepped up surveillance of Zemplín Reservoir during the summer season. During a mass operation they identified drivers with alcohol in their blood; one of them was carrying passengers.

The recreational area at Zemplín Reservoir became the target of a massive police operation. Officers from several units, including military police, occupied all access roads to check drivers after night-time entertainment.
According to comments by Košice police spokeswoman Lenka Ivanova, quoted by Korzár, the situation on roads in the region is deteriorating. In the 25th week of this year they recorded 969 accidents, which is 156 more than in the same period of the previous year. There were 33 motorists at the wheel under the influence, with eight of them showing a reading exceeding one per mille on the device.
During the four-hour raid, patrols checked 1,504 drivers. One of them, a taxi service driver, was stopped shortly before seven o'clock. A breath test showed 0.87 per mille. Since he was carrying passengers, police immediately took his driving licence and prohibited him from continuing.
The second case was even more serious. Near the village of Vinné they stopped a driver whose measurement revealed 1.21 per mille. This man went straight into a cell and following completion of the proceedings faces charges of endangering under the influence of a psychoactive substance.
Security forces have announced that strict checks will continue throughout the summer season. In addition to alcohol, they will focus on speed, railway crossings and the behaviour of road users. During patrols they plan to deploy aerial technical equipment as well.
