Police in the Košice region uncovered several drivers under the influence of alcohol during summer checks. Among them was a professional bus driver who was carrying passengers.

Košice police have recently intensified oversight of drivers who might be driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. They are also paying attention to professional public transport drivers.
On Saturday morning shortly before half past seven, patrols stopped a taxi driver near Zemplínska šírava. A breath test revealed he had 0.87 per mille of alcohol. Law enforcement officers immediately confiscated his driving licence and prohibited him from continuing to drive.
On Monday early in the morning, police focused on bus and tram drivers. One of the line bus drivers had 0.46 per mille in his breath. The vehicle was carrying passengers at that time.
Other checked professional drivers tested negative. All tram drivers and the majority of bus drivers were driving sober.
In Trebišov, patrols stopped the driver of a personal Opel car who had 1.21 per mille in his breath. He ended up in a cell and police charged him with endangering under the influence of an addictive substance.
Railway police in Čierna nad Tisou uncovered another drunk driver with 0.33 per mille. He lost his licence and is not permitted to drive until the relevant authority rules otherwise.
The regional police have announced that similar operations will continue unannounced throughout the summer. Last year, they recorded 21 accidents involving buses in the region; in the first five months of this year, there have already been ten.
