Fraud in Humenné: Woman loses €20,000, police seek witness
A 30-year-old woman transferred €20,000 to fraudsters posing as a police officer and an employee of the National Bank of Slovakia. Police are asking the public for help in identifying a person in a photograph.
Fake police officer and "NBS employee" extort €20,000 from woman
As ta3.com reports, detectives from the District Police Directorate in Humenné are investigating a fraud case in which a 30-year-old woman lost €20,000. Police have released a photograph of the person they are seeking and are appealing to the public for assistance.
The fraud occurred at the end of 2025. An unknown person repeatedly contacted the victim by telephone from several numbers, posing as a criminal police investigator. The woman was told that someone had broken into her bank account and that an unknown person from Šale had taken out a loan of €10,000 in her name.
Subsequently, another person, claiming to be an employee of the National Bank of Slovakia, entered the conversation. During the call, this person told the victim that her bank account had been attacked by a virus and recommended that she transfer all her funds to accounts that they provided.
The woman followed the instructions and made two bank transfers to two different accounts totalling €20,000.
Investigators are attempting to identify the person captured in the photograph. Police state that this person could contribute to clarifying the circumstances of the crime through their witness testimony.
Anyone who knows the person in the photograph or has information about their identity can contact police on line 158, at any Police Corps unit, or by private message on their Facebook page.
