Unknown fraudsters have begun sending text messages en masse in which they impersonate police officers and threaten citizens with fines. The Slovak police are warning the public about this fraud and urge increased caution.
According to information from the TERAZ.sk portal, the relevant administrative authorities and police officers never send fines via SMS messages. If people receive a similar message, they should ignore it and definitely not respond to it.
This type of fraud falls into the category of cybercriminal activity, in which perpetrators attempt to obtain money or sensitive personal information from victims through false threats. Police officers therefore repeatedly remind citizens that all official fines and notices from state authorities are sent exclusively in written form or through official electronic mailboxes.
Citizens should be particularly careful with messages that contain links to unknown websites or demand immediate payment. In case of doubt, it is recommended to contact the relevant authority or police directly.
