A woman from Gelnica died on 20 June following an attack by her husband. An inspection into the case revealed serious irregularities on the part of bodies involved in criminal proceedings.

General Prosecutor Maroš Žilinka pointed out in his statement that investigators and prosecutors in this matter violated the law. Despite this, police defend their conduct.

Alexander Szabó, spokesman for the Regional Directorate of the Police Force in Košice, told the TERAZ.sk portal that the inspection's findings would not affect already-issued decisions. "The conclusions of the inspection have no bearing on the fact that the offender in question was charged by an investigator's resolution with the especially serious crime of murder," he said.

According to his statement, police proceeded in accordance with the law and issued the appropriate resolutions. "The Police Force performed all necessary procedural actions in this matter," Szabó added.

The General Prosecutor's Office meanwhile established that serious violations of the law occurred in the criminal proceedings preceding the tragedy. Žilinka publicly criticised this case.
