MP Michelko to pay Čurill 10,000 euros over statements about Tupý murder
A dispute over defamation between former NAKA investigator Ján Čurill and MP Roman Michelko has been settled by court agreement. Michelko must apologise and pay 10,524 euros.

According to Google News SK — Crime (sk), a defamation dispute was settled by agreement on Wednesday at the City Court Bratislava V: National Council MP Roman Michelko (SNS) must apologise to former NAKA investigator Ján Čurill, pay him non-pecuniary damages of 10,000 euros and court costs of 524 euros.
The dispute was caused by Michelko's statements from the radio programme Saturday Dialogues, in which he said of Čurill that he "is directly and personally responsible for the fact that Tupý's murder is not investigated", that he "managed everything possible with regard to Tupý's murder", and called him an "absolute incompetent" or "criminal". The statements concerned the investigation of the murder of student Daniel Tupý.
In court, Čurill stated that he never investigated Tupý's murder, and had to explain the allegations to the family, colleagues and acquaintances. He originally sought an apology and 70,000 euros as non-pecuniary damages.
The parties attempted to resolve the dispute before trial. According to available information, Čurill was willing to settle with an apology and compensation of 15,000 euros, but Michelko rejected the financial payment at that time. They ultimately agreed on a lower sum.
