Kočner to appear before Pezinský court in Technopol takeover case in a week
This morning, a trial began in Pezinka concerning the takeover of the Bratislava property management company Technopol Servis. The charges concern five defendants, the most prominent of whom is Marián Kočner.
According to findings published by the Aktuality.sk news portal, the entire operation was to take place within a single week. From 2 to 8 December 2016, members of Kočner's group were allegedly to gain control of the company and transfer lucrative real estate properties from the Technopol building. The value of the property is estimated at approximately 20 million euros.
Before the panel, in addition to Kočner, will stand businessman Jozef Dučák, his son, lawyer Andrej Šabík, and Peter Horváth. The prosecutor attributes to them responsibility for neglect of duties in handling someone else's property.
The case has roots in a family conflict. Denisa Pávková, ex-wife of the former director of Technopol Servis, allegedly abused her position on the board of directors. Without the consent of other shareholders, she allegedly altered shares and entered her own details into them. Because she refused to return these documents, she later turned to Kočner.
Murdered journalist Ján Kuciak first alerted authorities to the suspicious transactions in January 2017. Nearly a decade later, investigators arrived at the same findings. Prosecutors filed charges in accordance with Kuciak's discoveries.
In this case, Kočner has property frozen with a total value of approximately 15 million euros. These are plots of land, family houses, flats, securities, shares, cars including a luxury Aston Martin vehicle, weapons, and funds in bank accounts.
