Poprad care home goes into bankruptcy, successor without debts already waiting
Poprad's Seniorpark is heading into bankruptcy after returning EU funds. People behind the organisation have already set up a successor – Seniorpark Co.
Poprad care home for the elderly enters bankruptcy, new organisation ready to take over care
The Poprad non-profit organisation Seniorpark, which operates two care homes for the elderly in Spišské Bytče and Kvetnica, is putting itself into bankruptcy, according to Denník N. The Prešov district court has already initiated bankruptcy proceedings against the organisation.
The care home in Kvetnica was established in the Villa Hollý building in the middle of a park. The villa was built in 1891 as a recreational retreat according to designs by Tatra builder Gedeon Majunke from Spišská Sobota. Both Seniorpark care homes together are able to provide care for up to 90 clients.
Ivan Tudaj, the former head of the regional office of the Slovak Land Fund in Poprad, was instrumental in establishing Seniorpark and continues to have influence over it today. The police investigated him in the past in connection with a corrupt restitution fraud scheme. Tudaj also has close ties to other individuals featured in major agricultural cases from the era of Smer and SNS party governments.
The organisation is entering bankruptcy only a few years after being forced to return agricultural EU fund grants during the OĽaNO government. Nevertheless, the provision of social services in both care homes is likely not to end.
People associated with the original non-profit have already created a new organisation, Seniorpark Co. This is registered in the social services provider registry, which allows it to continue providing care for the elderly without interruption – but this time without the obligations burdening the original organisation.
