The National Anti-Drug Unit conducted operations in Poprad and Svit, detaining four persons. Three men face seven to fifteen years imprisonment.
Extensive anti-drug operation in Poprad: three men charged with methamphetamine trafficking
Korzár reports that the National Anti-Drug Unit of the Police Corps Presidium conducted an extensive anti-drug operation codenamed Valec on the territory of Poprad and Svit on Tuesday morning.
During the operation, police detained four persons and conducted four house searches and seven searches of other premises. "In the early morning hours we detained four persons and carried out urgent procedural measures aimed at securing evidence important for criminal proceedings," stated Roman Hájek, spokesman for the Police Corps Presidium.
Narcotic and psychotropic substances were seized, along with electronic equipment—particularly mobile phones—and other items related to suspicion of drug-related criminal activity. All seized items will be subject to expert examination.
An investigator subsequently charged three men aged 36 to 44 years with the offence of unlawful manufacture and trafficking in narcotic and psychotropic substances. According to findings to date, the accused allegedly kept and distributed methamphetamine in the long term, which they sold for financial reward to other persons and users in Poprad and its surrounding area. "If guilt is proved, the accused face a sentence of deprivation of liberty for seven to fifteen years," Hájek added.
The operation involved members of the operational deployment working group of the National Anti-Drug Unit, the Ready Police Unit of the Regional Directorate in Prešov, investigators from the District Directorate in Poprad, forensic technicians from the Forensic Techniques Office and a dog handler from the District Directorate in Bardejov.
The investigation continues. Police are not currently providing further details in view of the ongoing criminal proceedings.
