On the night of 25 June, a fatal confrontation involving three people took place in central Košice. On Vrátna Street, which lies in the historic heart of the city, a conflict broke out around 23:00 hours, after which one of those involved ended up on the ground with severe stab wounds.
Igor Holéczy, who is running for the position of mayor, informed the public about the incident on social media. His account was confirmed by law enforcement officials. The victim was taken by emergency services to a healthcare facility, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Jana Illéšová, spokesperson for the regional police, told a news portal that investigators are taking all necessary steps to clarify the case. "Shortly after the incident, one person was detained. However, after performing the necessary procedures, they were released because the conditions for pre-trial detention were not met," she explained. She refused to disclose further information, reasoning that it could damage the ongoing investigation.
