On Sunday, 5 July, a dramatic incident occurred in an apartment building in Trebišov. According to information from the website Aktuality.sk, a man first set fire to the entrance door of a flat where a woman was present, and then set himself alight in front of the building.
Košice regional police stated that the perpetrator was demanding entry into the flat. When the woman refused to open the door, he set fire at the flat's entrance. By doing so, he endangered the life of the woman and other tenants of the apartment building.
After the arson attack, he went outside the building. There he doused himself with flammable liquid and immediately set himself alight. Paramedics transported him to hospital with burns. No one else suffered injuries in this attack.
Police officers and firefighters attended the scene. Investigators are intensively examining the case and continuing further investigative measures.
The police also appeal to citizens not to underestimate any behaviour that could genuinely endanger their lives or health, and to report such cases immediately on the number 158 or at the nearest police station.
