Domestic quarrel in Helcmanovce ends in death: 21 stab wounds and twenty years in prison
In the Slovak village of Helcmanovce, a domestic dispute ended in murder, according to Blesk.cz. In February, Alexander accompanied his partner Libuše (†42) to work when the couple quarrelled on the way. The man drew a knife and inflicted twenty-one stab wounds upon her, aiming primarily at the abdomen and head.
After committing the act, Alexander returned home with cuts to his neck that prevented him from speaking. He wrote on a piece of paper to his children that he had killed their mother and urged them to call the police. Rescue workers transported Libuše to hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries two days later.
Alexander initially claimed that the woman had stabbed him first during the quarrel. He later confessed, however. The court sentenced him to twenty years in prison for the act.
"The accused provided no assistance to the woman lying on the ground and fighting for her life. Moreover, he fled the scene," said the chair of the Regional Court of Košice in justifying the severe sentence, according to TV Markíza.
