On Sunday evening, 12 July 2026, a resident called police after noticing suspicious behaviour by a group of people in the village of Vyšné Nemecké near the border crossing to Uzhhorod.
A patrol from the Mobile intervention unit of Sobrance border police arrived at the car park and stopped two vehicles. One of them was being towed by the other using a rope. After checking the people, they admitted that they had taken the vehicle without permission and were heading with it to another village.
The case was taken over by colleagues from the local district office, who launched criminal proceedings for theft. Roman Hájek, spokesman for the Police Presidium, emphasised that even seemingly minor information from the public can help in uncovering illegal activity.
