Matej Varga, who once worked as an investigator at NAKA, has filed a lawsuit against the court seeking compensation. He is demanding approximately 34,000 euros from the state. He claims that his detention, charging, and criminal prosecution were unlawful. Details were reported by Denník N.
Last summer, the police inspectorate charged Varga with the crime of sabotage. He was held responsible for ordering an operative investigation of information about General Prosecutor Marošs Žilinka and his first deputy Jozef Kander. This information was connected to a case involving Smer party chairman Robert Fico. At the time of the investigation, Fico was still in opposition.
Investigator Kevin Dlabaj requested detention for Varga. In his justification, he stated that the suspect's conduct represented a deliberate and premeditated attack on the state. His colleague Peter Dubovický, in turn, described the act as a direct attack on the constitutional system in his ruling on the charges.
However, the Košice regional prosecutor's office rejected the detention request. After less than two months, prosecutor Branislav Reday withdrew the charges themselves. Despite this, the inspectorate did not close the case and Varga remains under suspicion.
His legal representative Peter Kubina stated that there is nothing preventing the investigator from concluding the matter. In the meantime, a new person has taken over the position of investigator.
