Woman from the east receives ten-year sentence for attempted murder with knife
The Košice court imposed a ten-year prison sentence on 41-year-old Anna L. Last December, this woman was involved in a brawl in the municipality of Nižná Rybnica in Sobrance district, where she stabbed her acquaintance, who was five years her senior, with a knife. The panel found her guilty of a particularly serious crime in the attempt stage. She originally faced twenty years, but the sentence was reduced due to her confession.
Everything began in one of the residential houses during a December night. At the time, a man named Ján Š. was entertaining in the building. When this man went to bed, the two women remained alone in the living room. They illuminated the space only with mobile phone torches. Between Anna L., who has permanent residence in the Západ district of Košice, and local Alena K., a verbal confrontation first erupted, followed by a physical one.
According to the prosecution, the younger woman, following the mutual conflict, seized a kitchen knife. She struck the victim, standing opposite her, with the blade at least three times. The attacker repeatedly swung her right arm from top to bottom, from back to front, from the right side to the left and vice versa. She inflicted serious lacerations on the victim's neck, collarbone and cheek.
The wounded woman's survival was only ensured by rapid medical intervention. The most serious wound had a treatment prognosis of three to six months. Emergency responders transported the woman to hospital, whilst police arrested the other participant in the incident. The judge subsequently sent her to a detention cell. Thanks to her own confession, the investigation ended quickly – by early June, police officers and the regional prosecutor's office had closed it and handed the documentation to the District Court in Košice. The court decided that the accused would stand trial from detention.
The verdict was handed down on Tuesday at the main hearing. Information was provided by the portal Korzár.
